Our Initiatives

We run a number of initiatives aimed at engaging with and inspiring young people.

Through our wide ranging programme of community safety initiatives we encourage young people to get involved in activities that make a real difference to them and to their local community.

Initiatives include one-day, five-day and longer term community programmes that allow young people to experience what it means to be a firefighter, whilst enjoying a fantastic experience, meeting new people and learning valuable life skills.

Some of the key skills that our programmes try to teach young people include:

  • Team-working and team-leading
  • Self-discipline skills
  • Problem-solving techniques
  • Confidence and communication
  • Improved physical capability
  • Citizenship skills
  • An awareness of health and safety
  • An understanding of the contribution that the Scottish  Fire and Rescue Service and other agencies make to our communities
  • Basic first aid skills

Our programmes can be tailored to suit primary and secondary school pupils, youth groups and partner agencies working with children and young people.
