The following joint statement from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Fire Brigades Union relating to the harmonisation of terms and conditions and wider transformation was released to all SFRS staff yesterday:

Discussions have been taking place between SFRS and FBU representatives on a number of matters relating to harmonisation of terms and conditions and wider change issues.

We have agreed to continue to explore resolution through the appropriate national and local processes.

In respect of harmonisation issues this means that both parties are also content to set aside referral to the NJCs Resolution Advisory Panel at this time to provide a further short period of time for continued local negotiations to identify a mutually acceptable resolution. Both parties are fully committed to doing so. You will be aware of various newspaper articles. It is recognised that negotiation through the media is not helpful in any such discussions and both parties commit to negotiate all these matters without reference to the media.

For the avoidance of doubt SFRS board, management and Fire Brigades Union representatives all remain fully committed to the National Joint Council for Local Authority Fire and Rescue Services. It is recognised that a number of the wider change issues are currently part of a negotiation within the NJC and it is intended that those issues will be progressed through NJC routes. We will also be discussing with representatives from the NJC Secretariat, which we expect to be next week.

In respect of both matters negotiations will be reported back in accordance with the agreed partnership agreement.
