Open Day - Kirriemuir 2017

Kirriemuir Fire Station is looking forward to throwing open its doors to the community next weekend.

Families and people of all ages are welcome to come along to the station for the free Emergency Services Day which will be held from 11am to 3pm on Sunday, May 21.

They can check out emergency services vehicles and also watch a series of practical demonstrations.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will have a rescue pump fire engine on display and also the Ariel Ladder Platform (ALP) appliance from Blackness Road, Dundee.

Firefighters will also be available to chat about fire safety within the home and potential careers within the Service.

There will also be a chance throughout the day for visitors to take part in the British Heart Foundation’s CPR sessions. Police Scotland will also be attending the open day event.

Daniel Gall, Watch Manager at Kirriemuir, said: “This open day is a fantastic opportunity for the community to meet and greet their local firefighters at a free, family day out.

“Vehicles from SFRS, as well as Police Scotland, will be on display and visitors will be able to see the huge range of equipment that is carried on board each appliance which allows all of our emergency services colleagues to deal with any given incident.

“Throughout the day, the fire service crew will be running a series of demonstrations using pumps and ladders to give a taste of the work we do. We will also have a bouncy castle for the kids, so it’s shaping up to be a great day out.”

While the aim of the day is to have fun, showcase the inside of a fire station and pass on advice regarding home fire safety, the crew will also be fundraising for The Fire Fighters Charity who enhance the quality of life for serving and retired firefighters, fire personnel and their families.

Watch Manager Gall added: “We would love to see as many people from our local community there as possible - come along and join us for a fun family day out."
